INSTALLATION PLANNING

Pressure-treated lumber in the field.

This original STRIKING DEALS illustration identifies the product family and installation workflow without copying a manufacturer or third-party image.

It is a sourcing and coordination visual, not an installation drawing. Supports, connections, clearances and code requirements must be verified for the selected product and project.
MANUFACTURING

How the material is commonly made

Solid lumber is sawn, dried, graded and surfaced. Pressure-treated lumber receives preservative treatment under controlled conditions. Plywood is made from cross-laminated veneers; OSB uses oriented wood strands bonded under heat and pressure; engineered wood uses veneers, strands or lumber bonded into structural members.

MATERIAL

Composition and construction

Wood species or engineered wood elements with product-specific adhesives, treatments and surface classifications.

CONFIGURATIONS

Common ways to specify it

  • Species, grade and moisture condition
  • Nominal and actual dimensions
  • Structural panel thickness and span rating
  • Treatment, exposure or fire-retardant requirement
APPLICATIONS

Typical construction uses

  • Wall, floor and roof framing
  • Sheathing and subfloors
  • Blocking, backing and exterior treated work
