INSTALLATION PLANNING

Framing fasteners in the field.

This original STRIKING DEALS illustration identifies the product family and installation workflow without copying a manufacturer or third-party image.

It is a sourcing and coordination visual, not an installation drawing. Supports, connections, clearances and code requirements must be verified for the selected product and project.
MANUFACTURING

How the material is commonly made

Cold-formed framing is typically produced from coated steel coil. The coil is slit to width and passed through roll-forming stations that create the web, flanges, lips and service openings. Members are cut to length, bundled and labeled. Base-metal thickness, steel grade and coating must be verified rather than inferred from gauge terminology alone.

MATERIAL

Composition and construction

Cold-formed coated steel sheet with manufacturer-specific steel grade, yield strength and metallic coating designation.

CONFIGURATIONS

Common ways to specify it

  • Stud, track, channel or accessory profile
  • Web depth, flange width and minimum base-metal thickness
  • Punched or unpunched
  • Standard or project-specific length
APPLICATIONS

Typical construction uses

  • Interior partitions
  • Exterior or load-bearing framing when engineered
  • Shaftwall, furring and specialty assemblies

Quality and document checks

  • Verify minimum base-metal thickness
  • Match accessories to the selected framing system
  • Confirm allowable-load documentation where structural

Important limitations

  • Gauge labels vary among product lines
  • Allowable loads require verified section properties
  • Installation must follow approved assembly details
