How the material is commonly made
Cold-formed framing is typically produced from coated steel coil. The coil is slit to width and passed through roll-forming stations that create the web, flanges, lips and service openings. Members are cut to length, bundled and labeled. Base-metal thickness, steel grade and coating must be verified rather than inferred from gauge terminology alone.
